Established as a mining camp with prospectors arriving in 1875, Ouray sits at the end of a box canyon in the northern San Juan Mountains. Known as the “Switzerland of America” Ouray, Colorado offers the visitor year family friendly around activities.
January: “the Ouray Ice Festival, held each year in January in Ouray, CO, is an eclectic gathering of ice climbers, gear manufacturers, and ice climbing enthusiasts. The international Festival was first held in January 1996 and now is widely recognized as the premier event of its kind.”
May: popular annual festival featuring 16 regional micro-brews, live music, dog contests, and more. Fun for you, your family, your dog(s) and your mother-in-law! A FUN fundraiser that benefits the Town’s free Concerts in Town Park held Thursday evenings in July.
Mountain Air Music Series
June: Mountain Air Music Series presented by the Ouray Hot Springs Pool at Fellin Park. Each Thursday in the month of June from 6–9 pm, you will be treated to incredible live music along with great food, non-alcoholic beverages, and beer, wine and spirits for purchase.
June: “the free, zero-waste event at Ridgway’s Rollans Park will feature a whitewater rodeo, river race, and family fun at the Kid’s Eddy, with a Watershed Education Tent that promotes education and awareness of various environmental and conservation issues facing the watershed.”
June: the Ridgway Area Trails Group is the Sneffels Chapter of Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Association (COPMOBA) promotes trail development in Ridgway and Ouray County. The Ridgway trails group is responsible for the development of multi-use trail systems in and around Ridgway Colorado. Partnered with COPMOBA our goal is to develop a sustainable trail system that will benefit the residents recreationally and economically of Ridgway and Ouray county.
Ouray’s hub of cultural activity, the 130 year old Wright Opera House is located on Main Street, with concert and film events held year around.
July: the Hardrock 100 is an endurance run which starts and ends in Silverton. With an elevation change on 67,984 feet contestants run through the rugged San Juan Mountains.
July: the Ridgway Concert Series is held every Thursday in July, from 6 till dark, in Town Park, and it’s FREE to attend.
August: “Alpine Artists’ Holiday, a juried show held each summer, is one of the oldest art shows in Colorado.”
August: “The MusicFest features a trio of musicians of international renown, under the artistic direction of pianist Max Levinson. The musicians come to Ouray County for a whole week in the late summer, producing a number of concerts and events throughout the county.”
August: the 13.1 mile Half-Marathon course begins at the Ouray Hot Springs Park, north of town in Ouray, Colorado. The race winds through the city of Ouray and then goes north on County Road 17 to County Road 23 along the Uncompahgre River Valley and into the town of Ridgway.

August: rendezvous includes canyon trips, gear vendor displays and demos, social meet and greet activities, raffles, movies, presentations and other events made possible by our sponsors and those who register and pay their $25 registration fee.

September: the Imogene Pass Run, with a course that connects Ouray and Telluride is 17.1 miles in length.
Ouray County Fair and Rodeo
September: late August and early September is Ouray County Fair and Rodeo time. Updates will be made when available from the fair board.
September: a weekend of history, guided tours, talks and a symposium celebrating Ouray County’s world-famous railroad heritage!
